What is a Sealant?

We receive a lot of questions about the procedures we perform on our patients.  One thing we might recommend for your child is a sealant.

A dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating that bonds a tooth's surface.  Your child's permanent molars may have deep pits and grooves that make them impossible to brush properly, which can lead to harmful bacteria forming on the tooth.  When this happens, we recommend filling those areas with a sealant to keep food and bacteria out of your child's teeth.  This reduces the risk of dental decay by up to 50%.

As your child's pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to take care of all your children's dental needs.  If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.
