Talking to Your Kid About the Dentist

Here at Northwest Children's Dentistry, we want your kids to have a positive image of the dentist.  We do our best to maintain a fun, friendly atmosphere where kids want to come see us.  You can help us by using positive words when talking to your kids about visiting the dentist:

  • Use gentle words when describing the dentist.  The words we use matter!  In our office, we try not to scare children about the procedures they might encounter.  We will sometimes call a shot "sleepy juice," for example.  You can help us out by also using these less scary words.
  • Don't share scary dentist stories.  Dentistry has changed a lot in the last century.  You or a relative may have had an awful experience growing up.  That doesn't mean all dentists are scary!  Try not to paint dentists as scary, and it will help your kid be more confident when they visit us.
  • Tell your child they can look forward to visiting us.  We try to provide a fun atmosphere in our office.  We have toys, books, and prizes that we give away to your children.  Remind your child that visiting us is a treat, not a chore.

As your child's pediatric dentist in Tucson, we want to take care of all your children's dental needs.  If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (520) 544-8522.
