Summer Tips for Dental Health

Summer is in full swing, and in between all the camps, playing, and outings, it's good to keep your kid's dental health up to par.  Here are some tips on how to keep your child's teeth healthy over the summer:

  • Drink water instead of sugary drinks. Kids will get hot running around, and it may be tempting to let them drink whatever's in the fridge. Stick to water, though, to reduce the chance of cavities. It's best not to let your child drink more than 4-6 oz. of juice a day.
  • Wear mouth guards for contact sports. If your child is going to a summer sports camp for an intensive sport, consider getting them a mouth guard to protect their teeth.
  • Don't throw your dental routine out the window. With a summer schedule or while you're on vacation, it may be tempting to skip brushing and flossing regularly. Make sure to keep this up even if your day is completely different than during the school year.
  • Come in for routine dental check-ins. Summer is often a popular time for us to see kids who are active during the school year. Make sure to schedule an appointment so we can give you personalized advice on your child's dental health.
